Detailed Rubber Waterstop Welding Procedures

In the construction process, we often need to extend waterstops to meet the size requirements. We often adopt cold joint method, hot melt knife joint method and hot melt machine joint method to extend the waterstop. Here we'd like to briefly introduce the hot melt machine and welding steps required in the hot melt machine joint method.

Hot melt machine for internal rubber waterstop

Rubber waterstop welding machine, also known as waterstop hot melt mould or waterstop connection equipment, is a kind of hot melt mould for rubber waterstop joint. It consists of a hot melt mould and a control cabinet. When using the mould, you also need a jack. There is a heating element connecting with the control box in the mould. The interface shape of the mould shall be the same as the rubber waterstop head to be heated. A temperature controlling device is installed in the middle of the mould. The material of the raw rubber strip used in welding is similar to the rubber waterstop, and has a strong affinity. The vulcanizing agent in the raw rubber strip spreads to the joint interface and crosslinks with the remaining double bonds of the vulcanized rubber to form a co-vulcanization system. In this way, the two waterstops are jointed together.

The hot welding machine joint method adopts the hot vulcanization mould (hot melt welding machine) that matches up with the rubber waterstop head to be welded and raw rubber strip for field hot vulcanization connection. It is difficult to conduct the connection yet with desired joint effect and is especially suitable for projects with strict quality requirements.

The connection steps of the rubber waterstop are as follows:

  1. Prepare a hot vulcanization compound welding machine required for the rubber waterstop connection;
  2. Switch on the machine 30 minutes in advance to preheat the hot melt welding machine and make the preheat temperature fall between 130 °C and 150 °C;
  3. Cut the rubber waterstop joints neatly. Thin the joint with a grinder and make sure the width of the joint is greater than or equal to 5 cm;
  4. Cut the raw rubber plate into two raw rubber strips with a width of 100 mm and 10 mm respectively;
  5. Turn off the power supply and the preheating welding machine. Lay the waterstop joint on the bottom plate of the welding machine;
  6. Place the 10 mm width raw rubber strip in the middle of two joints. And then lay the 100 mm width raw rubber strip on the thinned surface of the rubber waterstop to ensure the width of the joint on both sides is equal;
  7. Close the hot melt machine and adjust the height of the jack. Switch on the machine for 5 minutes and then tighten the jack again for pressurization. Continue the heating for 5 minutes and turn off the power. The welding process is completed;
  8. Cool the hot melt machine for 20 minutes and then take out the rubber waterstop. Check the welding appearance via visual inspection. Installation can be only performed until the appearance inspection is proved to be qualified.
